South America - newly reported Carnival Glass

In recent years, there have been many new discoveries reported from Carnival Glass makers in South America, and we, together with much help from avid glass collectors in South America have been at the forefront of research and reporting of those finds.

This page will record and update all the newly reported pieces and patterns that we know about.

Aztec Headdress
Originally thought to be made in Argentinia, but more likely it is from a maker (as yet unconfirmed) in Brazil.

It has been given the Mexican sounding name Aztec Headdress, but  Cláudio considers that the decorative design is more reminiscent of a samba-style headdress.

This pattern is found in crystal glass with "Portieux" moulded in the base.

However, Cláudio has made an amazing discovery of a Carnival example, with "Esberard" moulded in it.

Louise / Luise

This pattern is definitely attributed to Brockwitz, but it is possible that it may also have been copied and made in Brazil (maker unknown) and given the pattern name Karen. See our Collectors Facts on Louise.

Eye of the Queen (aka Eye in the Sky)

Here is another discovery from South America sent to us by Claudio Deveikis, who named it Eye of the Queen. He believes it is possibly made by a factory in Brazil called Guarani. See Collector's Facts for more information.

Unnamed plates

Gustavo Genn sends us these images of some fascinating plates he has discovered in Brazil - as yet, neither pattern has been named and research is ongoing!.

Butters from Brazil -  courtesy of Cláudio Deveikis and Álvaro Henrique Nicolau Aguiar.

In this major new feature, we present a splendid array of fascinating butter dishes from Brazil. Carnival Glass was not only produced worldwide, it is also collected and studied worldwide. This amazing array of butter dishes both tantalises and intrigues. Some have a familiar look to them while others are mysterious and rather exotic.

Click on the image below to see all these amazing butter dishes, and as a bonus - two fabulous covered compotes!
