There are some interesting items in this delightful selection of Revival era Ruby Carnival from Smith Glass in 1985. The "R" in the pattern numbers denotes Ruby (or red) Carnival Glass. In our article on the Story of L. E. Smith Glass Company, we explained that in the course of their development, in addition to having their own distinctive patterns and moulds, they had acquired moulds from other glass companies that had closed. This 1985 catalogue included patterns previously made by United States Glass and McKee.
R stands for Ruby Carnival
The named patterns we see here are:
#520R - Buzz Star, part of Smith’s Heritage Series. An old United States Glass mould from their Art-Cut crystal glass line.
#506R - Whirling Star aka Galaxy, from an original McKee pattern named Wiltec.
#80R - Daisy and Button.
#4401R - Bird in Flight aka Thrush
#119R - Jove, from another old McKee mould. In fact, 119 is the same number that McKee originally gave it.
