John and Lucile Britt - Woody Auction, March 1989
To quote the Auctioneer, John Woody of Woody Auction writing in 1989: "How does one describe one of the best Carnival Glass collections ever offered at auction by two of the foremost authorities and best-known "Carnival" people, John and Lucile Britt? Should we say it is one of the most fantastic collections offered in recent years? YES! Should we say it is probably one of the most important events for Carnival collectors this year? YES!"
"John and Lucile have devoted many years to the study and collecting of Carnival Glass and are considered two of the outstanding authorities in the field. They have attended virtually every convention and most other Carnival Glass happenings in the past 15 years. They are continually writing articles ... giving lectures and presentations .... and are always ready to help you."
The auction comprised almost 850 pieces of Carnival Glass - it was not their entire collection, and indeed they carried on collecting afterwards. We corresponded with them and we met them several times at conventions and bought some wonderful Carnival Glass from them. It was always a great pleasure to seek out their glass sales room and feast our eyes on the amazing display of glass that they had brought with them.
