Collectors Facts - Rising Comet, Hortensja, Poland
Rising Comet is not to be confused with the other design - Rising Comet and Grooves, but it is fair to ask if there is any connection between the two patterns?
Originally, it was thought that Rising Comet could be of Czech origin, maybe from Rindskopf, but based on our research into the Polish company, Hortensja, and thanks to Malcolm and Hilary Ross, we now know that Hortensja made the Rising Comet vases. A Rising Comet vase and the illustration of it ( #291) in a Hortensja catalogue are shown on the left. Rising Comet and Grooves however, was most likely made in Argentina. Are there any connections? We have discovered various connections between glassmaking in Poland and in South America. Versions of Daisy and Scroll, and Garland and Bows (with some pattern differences) were made in both places – follow the links to our Collectors Facts on these two intriguing patterns to read about the recent South American discoveries. |
