This small marigold butter dish was given the Original Maker's Name "Onni", which is a man's name in Finland meaning happiness, or luck. It was made in Carnival probably in the 1930s.
The lidded butter was made earlier in clear (crystal) glass by the Finnish glassmaker, Köklaks (the Swedish name for Kauklahti), which was located in Espoo, near Helsinki, Finland. Between 1923 and 1927 the company marked some of their products with the moulded name "KÖKLAKS", which we can see in the lid of the clear Onni (see below).
Köklaks was taken over by Riihimäki in 1927, and Riihimäki subsequently changed the marking to "KAUKLAHTI." In the case of the Onni butter, Riihimäki made a new plunger and into it they moulded "KAUKLAHTI.", which we can see in the (inside) base of the Carnival version (see below).

The dimensions are
- diameter: 73mm (3 inches) - height: 51mm (2 inches). The height of the clear version with its lid is 73mm (3 inches). It has a ground base, which was polished smooth. |
