Late Sunflower - Jeannette
Bob’s all embracing collection features Jeannette’s “Late Sunflower” in four sizes of drinking glass!
From the small juice right up to the large iced tea glass, these are not only useful but also very decorative items. As well as the marigold with white enamelled decoration, there is a rare brown decorated version, found by Bob.

The 1950 ad for Woolworth’s stores (shown, right), featured an “iridescent gold-colored pitcher and tumbler set” alongside an ad for “Healthy, Bright Hued Canaries”! (Note the caveat in the ad for the canaries … they “may or may not turn out to be songsters”). Here it is – Jeannette’s “Late Sunflower” water set. |
Writing in “A Century of Carnival Glass” we noted that Late Sunflower was originally called “Cosmos” or “All White Cosmos” as per Jeannette’s own advertising from 1949. The glass was decorated in white (known as Decoration No. 58) and there is a rare brown-decorated version (above).
Note the ice lip on the matching pitcher. The pinched in top of the pitcher’s lip was intended to retain the ice cubes. Many USA homes would have had refrigerators in 1950.
