Carnival Glass Centennial Celebration – Fenton Art Glass in 2007
Fenton Art Glass made their first Carnival Glass in 1907 … and a hundred years later they celebrated the centenary by introducing some amazing and beautiful items into their lines.
In one of their 2007 newsletters, Fenton explained it thus: “To celebrate the centennial of Carnival Glass, we have rediscovered and improved much of the original chemistry and techniques for iridizing glass. We salute the past and mark our place in the present with a panoply of Carnival glass colors in a wide variety of contemporary shapes. These pieces are surely the heirlooms of the future.”

Fenton's 2007 June Supplement One item in particular stands out in this Supplement, as it was featured in Carnival collectors’ circles in June 2018, as something of a puzzle. The item in question is the 7½” high bud vase shown on the right. It is in scintillating ruby Carnival Glass. And here it is shown in Fenton’s June 2007 Supplement – this bud vase was called “Raspberry” and was Fenton’s #4268 RC (RC - Ruby Carnival). It was one of four items that were introduced for the Celebrations to "continue the appeal of this collector favorite [Carnival Glass]". It is thought to have been made from an old Fostoria mould acquired by Fenton, and that the production was limited to 1,250 of these bud vases. Our understanding is that Gary Levi (Levay Glass) also had some of these vases whimsied, with different shaped tops. |
