Fenton Revival Marigold Carnival Glass

Fenton introduced Contemporary Carnival Glass in 1970, and their reissued marigold was brought into the line in July 1971. It was called "Orange Carnival" and given the colour code "CO". At the time, Frank Fenton said it "is not the real marigold" ... it is much closer to what many antique dealers call red carnival. None of the [original] orange carnival is still being made."

This catalogue page is from 1973, and we see several of Fenton's very successful Revival Carnival patterns and shapes. There is an intriguing mix of reissues, reproductions as well as new patterns and shapes. We can see reissues of Fenton's Classic (old) Carnival pattern/shape combinations such as the footed Fenton's Flowers, aka Orange Tree rosebowl (called " Leaf & Orange Tree Bowl", #8223), the Butterflies bon bon ("Handled Butterfly Bonbon", #8230), and the Persian Medallion comport (#8234).

There are also reproductions of Classic Carnival patterns originally made by other glassmakers: the "Grape Nappy", #8225 was originally Imperial's Heavy Grape. There are two items that were originally made in Classic Carnival by Northwood: "Cupped Hearts & Flowers Bowl", #8229, originally Northwood's Hearts and Flowers pattern, and "Handled Ftd Fruit Comport", #8231, which was originally Northwood's Fruits and Flowers with Basketweave exterior.
